SMILEY, MICHAEL, 58, passed away at his home in Louisville on April 3, 2014, after a difficult struggle with cancer.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was born on November 22nd, 1955, to Gordon and Edith Smiley in Louisville.
Michael graduated from Ballard High School in 1974, Murray State University in 1980, and earned his Master's in Landscape Architecture from Texas A&M University in 1985. His love of Louisville's Olmsted Parks led him to co-found a landscape architecture company, Environs Inc., with his wife Jodi in 1998. Mike dedicated much of his career toward sharing his passion for the living landscape. His enthusiastic appreciation of the Olmsted ideals resulted in raising the bar on the quality of design in so many parks in the region. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, deft hand, and readiness to rise to the challenge.
He is survived by his wife, Jodi Smiley, his two children, Josephine and Jaekob, his mother, Edith Smiley; his siblings, Caroline Maney (Patt) and David Smiley (Jane), and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at Yew Dell Gardens on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. We will begin with gathering and sharing of stories, and continue at 4p.m. with a memorial celebration. Casual attire is accepted.
Donations in Mike's name can be made to Whitehall House and Gardens, or to the Louisville Olmsted Parks Conservancy.
