HAYES, RUTH, 91, died peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2014, at The Episcopal Church Home.

She was born March 13, 1923 to James J. Hayes Jr. and Ruth Stafford Hayes in Louisville. She graduated from Atherton High School and attended the University of Louisville as well as Purdue University under a Department of Defense program.
Ruth worked at American Air Filter and General Electric as a draftsman, before retiring in 1985. She loved to travel, play bridge and spend time with her family and friends. Ruth was very active in the Louisville Women's Club and was a former board member and treasurer of the Louisville Deaf Oral School. Ruth had been a member of Highland Presbyterian Church most of her life where she sang in the choir and, in recent years, was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Julia Crabtree; and a brother, James Hayes. She is survived by her sister, Martha Hayes Madison Dupps; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hayes of Venice FL; a niece, Nancy Harrison (Hugh) of Richmond VA; and nephews, Douglas Madison (Stephanie), Bruce Madison (Linda), Thomas Crabtree (Marcy), William Crabtree (Mel), Dean Crabtree, all of Louisville, and Robert Hayes of Venice FL, and Michael Hayes of Naples FL; and numerous great nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Rd. with visitation to follow at the church.
