Ruter, Ruth Wise,
91, died Monday, July 21, 2014.
She was a devoted teacher, inducted into the Who's Who in Education in 1968, past president of the 15th district Parent Teacher Association and retired in 1979 as principal of Virginia Wheeler Elementary School. She was a graduate of Fern Creek High School, Western Kentucky University and Vanderbilt University and served as an elder of Beulah Presbyterian Church where she organized a Senior Citizen's Club. In addition, she spent over 50 years in the service of the Eastern Star, was a three time past president of Fern Creek Woman's Club and served as meals chairman of the Kentucky Federation of Women's Clubs for several years. She was a member of the Fern Creek Heritage Festival Committee Hall of Fame and the Fern Creek High School Hall of Fame.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Melton Ruter; and parents, Thurston and Ida Shaw Wise.
She is survived by her sister, Mildred "Mickey" Carrico; niece, Charlotte Nellis (Jim); and great nieces, Ashley Raque (Craig) and Allison Nellis.
Her funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road with burial in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday.
