MURPHY, THOMAS LEE, 84, Henryville, IN, died Monday, May 7, 2012 at his home in Memphis, IN.

He was born April 7, 1928 in Henryville, the son of Raymond and Gertrude (Bolly) Murphy who are both deceased. He graduated from West Baden High School, West Baden, IN. He married Mary Carolyn Matheny on May 2, 1952 at Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church in French Lick, IN and recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Purdue University on the G.I. Bill. He was a devoted Roman Catholic, husband, father and grandfather. He was an active member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He was a retired business owner of Tom Murphy Insurance Agency and also served as Adjutant for American Legion Post 105 all in Henryville, Indiana. He was a World War II and Korean War United States Marine Corps veteran. He served on the first Henryville Junior Baseball League Board of Directors which founded the park located on Park Road in Henryville. He was a past officer, board member and volunteer fire fighter with the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was a charter member of the Henryville Kiwanis Club. He served his community in many volunteer positions over his life time. He coached girls basketball, volleyball, freshman boys basketball, and little league at Henryville, he was a volunteer boys' basketball score keeper for over 25 years, and an avid lifetime Henryville Hornets fan.
Survivors include his wife Mary Carolyn Matheny Murphy, of Memphis; his brother David Murphy (Joyce), of St. Louis, MO; his daughters, Linda Guernsey (Mark), Cindy Murphy and Lyn Maureen Carter (Philip), all of Memphis; his son Jack Murphy (T.J.), of Henryville; grandchildren, John Murphy of North Hollywood, CA, Cassie Guernsey, Erica Carter and Rebecca Carter, all of Memphis, and Tara Murphy and Sean Murphy of Henryville.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 101 N. Ferguson St., Henryville, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with visitation prior from 9-11 a.m. Enrollment in the University of Louisville Bequeathal Program and Cremation has been chosen.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Henryville Dollars for Scholars, PO Box 124, Henryville, IN 47126.
