DEAN, THOMAS RALPH, 80, longtime resident of Louisville, passed away on June 21, 2013, at Baptist Health Louisville.
The Guest Book is expired.
Tom, "Tommy" to many, was born March 21, 1933, in Pittsburg County, OK.
Sergeant Major Tom Dean, a 23-year veteran and Bronze Star recipient, retired from the US Army in 1974. In a second career, Tom worked as a pharmaceutical representative for Flint Laboratories; advancing to regional manager and eventually working as an independent contractor for T.E. Williams and Geri-Med Pharmaceuticals.
Upon settling in Louisville, Tom became involved in leadership positions at Wildwood Country Club and in his social community, Hurstbourne, where he served as term as Mayor. An avid golfer, Tom often served as Marshall for major tournaments held in Louisville.
Known for his affable personality, skillful conversation, and sense of humor, perhaps Tom's greatest legacies will be recounted stories among family and the many who called him "friend" and sought his comradery.
Tom is survived by his wife, Pam and son James Patton. He is also survived by former wife, Georgia, and their children, Dwayne Wintrode, Sharri Hencz, and Glenace Van Demark; sisters, Patricia Ferchau, Vickie Jean Crawford, and brother, Robert George Dean; and many grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013 with burial to follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliffe, with military honors. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. until time of service at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, East Louisville.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Tom Dean's name to The American Veterans Association, Wounded Warriors Project or Fisher House.
