HAYES, SISTER THOMASITA, OSU, 83, died Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Mercy Sacred Heart in Louisville.

Sister Thomasita was born in Sharon, MS, and entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1950. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ursuline College and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame.

In Louisville, Sister Thomasita taught at St. Ann (1952-1954) and St. Rita (1955-1956) parish schools; and at Sacred Heart Academy (1956-1957, 1960-1969, 1989-1990) and Ursuline Academy (1957-1958). She also taught at St. Aloysius parish school (1954-1955) in Shepherdsville. Most of her teaching career was at Shawe Memorial High School in Madison, IN, where she had a 29-year ministry. She also taught in Cumberland, MD. Sister volunteered at the Ursuline Motherhouse and later was a resident of Mercy Sacred Heart, where she continued in prayer ministry.

She is survived by brothers, Peter (Bess), Charles (Bobbie) and Ben (Rita); sister-in-law, Alice Lee Hayes and brother-in-law, Dean Jarrell, all of Mississippi; sister, Allie Avery (Mike) of California; nieces, nephews and her Ursuline Community.

Visitation will be at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 3115 Lexington Road, on Monday, from 4-7 p.m. followed by a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel, with interment in St. Michael Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bosse Funeral Home.
