Wayne Franklin Echelberger Jr. Obituary
ECHELBERGER, DR. WAYNE FRANKLIN JR., 78, of Tampa, FL, died on Saturday January 19, 2013 in Indianapolis, IN.

He was born in Pierre, SD, October 23, 1934. He graduated with a BS in civil engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and received an MS in public health and an MS and Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Michigan.

He had a long and productive academic career as a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He held academic positions at the University of Michigan (1964/65), University of Notre Dame (1965-73), Indiana University (1973-83), University of Texas-El Paso (1983-89) and the University of South Florida (1989-99), the last two serving as Professor and Department Chairman.

He was a member of Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church, Tampa Rotary Club, Triangle Fraternity, and many different engineering organizations.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Iris Violetta "Vi" (Davila) Echelberger.

He is survived by his sons Dr. Jeffrey Echelberger (Bonnie) of Louisville, and Michael Echelberger (Penny) of Georgetown, TX; grandchildren Drew and Mitch Echelberger of Louisville, and Austin, Ashley and Brady Echelberger of Georgetown, TX; and a sister Rita Potas (Les) of Benson, MN.

There will be a memorial service at noon Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church, 420 Bullard Pkwy., Temple Terrace, FL 33617, with reception to follow.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Rotary Club of St. Matthews Charitable Foundation.
