SCHAFTLEIN, WILLIAM FRIEDRICH, 86, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at home.
He retired from Standard Gravure Corp. as a rotogravure pressman with 27 years of service.
He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, a past president of the Kentuckiana Square Dance Association and Rebels Square Dance Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #220, a Kentucky Colonel and served in the Marine Corps during World War II.
He loved and owned several thoroughbred horses and was a member of the Horseman's Benevolent and Protective Association.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert L. Schaftlein.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mildred Longest Schaftlein; sister, Dorothy Mahoney (Dick); nieces, Debra L. Foley (Sammy), Susan G. Ryan (Marty) and Patricia Jaggers (James); nephews, Kevin (Kathy), Wade, Shawn Mahoney and Robert P. Schaftlein (Kathy). He is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews, including Erin and Amanda Mahoney, Abigail and James G. Jaggers, Kimberly and Deuce Mahoney, Tabitha, Larry, James and Alan Foley and Carly Jo and Jake Ryan.
Services will be noon Wednesday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., with entombment in Evergreen Mausoleum. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or the WHAS Crusade for Children.
