CARDEN, WILLIE JAMES "JAY," was called to his heavenly home on January 16, 2013. He passed peacefully at his daughter's home and surrounded by his loving family.

On June 24, 1930, he was born to J. C. and Elizabeth Ellen Ash Carden in Elizabethtown, KY. Jay was the grandson of James Madison and Lilly Ann Dilley Carden, and of William P. and Olive Carroll Ash.

Jay proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War while assigned to the USS Alshain (AKA 55). He was a member of Southeast Christian Church, the American Legion Post 220, the Plumber's Union Local #107 and was a Mason.

In addition to his daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Dr. George C. Stege III, Jay is also survived by his son, Timothy Jay Carden; and daughter-in-law, Sherry Lynn Carden; brother, Robert L. Carden (Carolyn); sister, Ann Carden Champion; four grandchildren, Joshua Tate, Aaron Carden of Panama City, FL, Amber McClease and Ashley Carden; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a host of friends; and his devoted cat, Ladybug.

His funeral service will be held at noon on January 22, 2013 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home in Jeffersontown, 10600 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
