MSG Donald Alfred Costa
of Ayer; 63

AYER -- MSG Donald Alfred Costa, 63, of Mulberry Circle, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at his residence.

Mr. Costa was born in Fall River, April 21, 1951, a son of Lillian (Rego) Costa and the late Antone A. Costa and grew up in Fall River. He has resided in the Ayer-Fort Devens area for over forty years.

Mr. Costa served his country for twenty seven years in the United States Army, retiring in 1991 at the rank of Master Sergeant. During his time of service, Mr. Costa received many awards and commendations including the Army Service Ribbon, seven Good Conduct Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Humanitarian Citation and the National Defense Medal with a Bronze Star as well as several others.

MSG Costa flew many hours performing Medical Dust Off Missions during the Vietnam War.

Following his retirement from the armed forces, he worked as a Program Manager for A+ Technologies in Massachusetts and Connecticut, retiring in 2011.

He was a born fisherman and enjoyed golfing but above all he was a family man.

He was the brother of the late Michael Costa of Fall River.

Besides his mother of Fall River, he leaves his wife of 43 years, Cynthia M. (Ribeiro) Costa; a son, Donald A. Costa II of Ayer; daughters, Lisa M. Hawthorne of Ayer, Laurie A. Bradley of Groton and Angela Abdulla of Norwood; two brothers, Antone Costa of Fall River, James Costa of Colorado; three sisters, Debra Rackle of Iowa, Lisa Rego of Fall River, Lillian Muir of Florida; three grandchildren, Kyle M. Bradley, Isabela B. Costa, Cameron J. Hawthorne and several nieces and nephews.

COSTA -- Funeral services will be private.

There are no calling hours.

The T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, Ayer is assisting the family with arrangements.
