Elsie L. Duncan
formerly of Malden and Chelmsford; 97

ANDOVER -- Elsie L. (Bowers) Duncan, 97, of Andover, formerly of Malden and Chelmsford, died Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Wingate of Andover, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late Arthur Duncan who passed away after more than Fifty years of marriage.

A daughter of the late Waco and the late Maggie (Williams) Bowers, she was born September 29, 1916, in Bowersville, Georgia, and was raised and educated in that area. During World War II, she moved to Washington D.C. where she met Arthur, and they married in 1942 while he was serving with the United States Marine Corp. After his discharge, in 1945, they moved to Malden where she raised her family. For many years she worked for E. V. Yeuell Sheetmetal Company in Malden.

She moved to Chelmsford Crossing in Chelmsford where she made her home for many years before residing in Andover since 2011. Elsie loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed visiting the Malden Senior Center and was a member of the Baldwin Apple Square Dancers. She and Arthur spent many of winters in Pompano Beach, Florida.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Colagiovanni and her husband, Richard, of Florida, Diane Norton and her husband Dennis, of Center Barnstead, NH and William 'Bill' Duncan of West Peabody; her grandchildren, Marianne Hendrix of Florida, Eric Norton and Danny Norton both of Minnesota, Nancy Taylor of Stow, MA, Matt Duncan of Beverly, MA, Allison Vassallo, of CA, Alex Duncan of CA, Jason Duncan of NH, Jesse Duncan of NH, and James Keefe and Jennifer Keefe both of NH.; her ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Robert Duncan and sister of the late Waco Bowers, the late John Chapman, and the late Marjorie Smale.
