longtime resident of Chelmsford; 81

NORTH CHELMSFORD -- George Armstrong, 81, a longtime resident of Chelmsford died unexpectedly October 19, 2013. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy A. "Dottie" (Jennings) Armstrong, who died on April 11th.

He was born in Wigan, England on April 3, 1932, and was a son of the late John and Mary (Droney) Armstrong. He served in the Royal Navy and then immigrated to the United States and served in the United States Navy.

George and his wife Dottie were the owners of Powers Liquors in Lowell for over 30 years.

His greatest joy was spending time in the company of his family and friends. He also enjoyed taking cruises and vacationing in Aruba.

He is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl L. Armstrong of North Chelmsford and Cynthia L. Armstrong of Methuen; and many nieces and nephews in Virginia, Florida, and England.

ARMSTRONG -- GEORGE - Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD, followed by his Funeral Service at 1 pm at the funeral home.
