CHELMSFORD -- George E. Morland, 76, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Westford House Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of Jean A. (Ackerman) Morland to whom he has been married for 38 years.
Born in Boston on August 6, 1937, he was the son of the late George E. and Victoria Morland.
He attended Boston English High School and then joined the Army National Guard. Later he went to school to learn welding and became a welder and machinist. He also earned an Associates Degree from Northeastern University.
George loved anything to do with aviation and flying. After earning his private pilot's license, he and Jean enjoyed flying here and there. His favorite jobs had to do with building airplanes, beginning at Pratt & Whitney in CT.
In the late 1960's, George spent 2 years at sea in the Merchant Marines, he considered this an adventure of a lifetime. When he returned home, he became a manufacturing engineer and worked on many projects for the space and medical industries. Prior to his retirement he worked at Busek in Natick.
In addition to his loving wife, Jean, he is survived by three sisters; Claire Morland of Springfield, and Diane Pettey and Nancy Adams of Lakeville. He was the brother of the late Jeannette Berg.
MORLAND -- GEORGE E. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 12:00 until 2:00 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. His Funeral Service will begin at 2 o'clock at the Funeral Home. Interment will take place at 10 o'clock on Monday in Old Westwood Cemetery, Nahatan Street, Westwood, MA 02090.
