Loving husband, father and grandfather

PELHAM, NH-- With his loving family by his side, George R. Desmarais III, 61, of Pelham, NH, passed away Wednesday, February 26th at his home following a valiant battle against cancer. George was the best friend and treasured husband of Debra Chadwick-Desmarais, for over thirty years.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, November 24, 1952, the son of the late George R. Desmarais, Jr. and the late Loraine (Hughes) Desmarais, he attended St. Michael's Grammar School and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1970.

A veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Before illness forced his retirement, George worked in retail and manufacturing at various companies throughout the local area. Previously, he was employed as the Dairy Manager with the former Purity Supreme Supermarket in Pelham for many years.

He was a parishioner at St. Patrick's Church in Pelham and was one of the original members of St. Patrick's Parish Men's Club. George was instrumental in helping to develop the Pelham CERT (Citizen's Emergency Response Team) Program and was deployed to Alabama and Georgia in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. George was an avid reader and enjoyed many activities, especially camping and family vacations. George and Debbie treasured their last special trips to Maine and the Bahamas. George was also an avid bowler on the Apollo League at the Brunswick Bowling Alley in Lowell and an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. He was also a successful friend of Bill W.

In addition to his wife Debbie, George is survived by a son George R. Desmarais IV (Nicole) of Pelham, NH; two daughters Alissa D. Desmarais of Nashua, NH and Ashley D. Desmarais of Pelham, NH; three grandchildren Victoria F. Desmarais, a student at Pelham Elementary School, Madison E. Moore, a student at Pelham Kindergarten and Jack T. Desmarais; a sister Kathleen M. Martell of Nashua, NH; his step Grandmother, Jeannette B. Desmarais; his uncle Robert Desmarais (Carol) of Chelmsford, MA; his father and mother-in-law Richard and Frances Chadwick of Pelham, NH; many brothers and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and very dear friends Larry and Betty Gerossie of Dunstable, MA and Al and Gail Novak of Haverhill, MA.

DESMARAIS -- In Pelham, February 26, 2014, at home, George R. Desmarais III, 61, husband of Debra Chadwick-Desmarais. Friends may call at the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME, 11 NASHUA RD. in PELHAM from 4 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Thursday morning at ST. PATRICK"S CHURCH in Pelham at 11 o'clock. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.
