LOWELL -- John Daranikone, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Lowell General Hospital - Saints Campus. He was 67 years old. John was the beloved husband of Thongsouk Daranikone.
John was born in Laos on May 3, 1945, and was a son of the late Thitpan and Lom Daranikone. John received his primary and secondary education in Laos before joining the King's Royal Lao Army to fight against the communist regime during the timeframe of the Vietnam War. John served for over 14 years in the Lao Army. He spent eight years as a prisoner of war and was released in 1975.
In 1977, John married his wife, Thongsouk in Laos. Together they raised five children. They emigrated to Lowell in June of 1980 and settled in Lowell.
John was employed as an Electronics Technician, retiring in 2009 from Satcon Electronics of Marlborough.
A strong role model for the Lowell Lao Community, John has been involved with the Wat Lao Mixayaram of New England since its inception. He was past President of the Temple and the Laotian American Community of Massachusetts. John was a generous volunteer of his time and talents for his culture and community.
At home, John was a good husband and father. He always wanted the best for his children. He was a hardworking, humble man with a good sense of humor. Family was central to John's life.
John will be deeply missed by his wife, Thongsouk, his sons, Oubon Daranikone, Marktiene Daranikone, and Syho Daranikone, all of Lowell; his daughters, Viengsavanh Daranikone of Lowell, and Viengsavanh Daranikone of Laos; four grandchildren, Angelina Daranikone, Joleighn Daranikone, Oubon Zion Daranikone, and Donovan Sysath Daranikone; three brothers, Korady Daranykone of Lowell, Naly Daranykone and Thongchanh Daranikone, both of California; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on FRIDAY from 2 until 6 P.M. Traditional Buddhist Funeral Services will be held on SATURDAY MORNING, beginning at 7:30 A.M. in the Funeral Home.
