SILVER SPRING, MD -- Dr. (Lt Col) John P.G. Moskovites Ph.D./MD, USA (Ret), passed on December 16, 2013, in Silver Spring, MD.

He was the son of the late George Moskovites and Stavroula (Vlahakis) Moskovites. Born in Lowell, MA on March 26, 1931. He is survived by two nieces, Rebecca Rousso and her husband, Joseph of California, Deborah DeTora of Massachusetts; two grand-nieces, Alexandra and Marissa of California; a godson, Peter Hun K. Jung; a goddaughter, Sung Mi Jung; their children, Christopher Yi H. Jung, Alexandra So Y. Jung who lived with him; and many cousins.

He is predeceased by two sisters, Harriet DeTora and Patricia Mellonakos.

He was a graduate of Boston University and the University of New York which included graduate work at Harvard University. He retired from the Army as a Lt Col in 1993 after 27 years of military service. He served in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in connection with military operations against a hostile force.

While in Vietnam, he helped soldiers who were suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome and was honored in an article in Look Magazine for his contribution to the soldiers and Vietnam Veterans. He continued his public service working for the District of Columbia for almost 15 years. He finally fulfilled his long-time desire to enter the monastic ranks on August 8, 2012. He was tonsured into the Small Schema as Monk Peter by Igumen Seraphim (Voepel) at the Hermitage of the Holy Cross in Wayne, WV.

MOSKOVITES -- Funeral services were conducted on December 20, 2013 followed by burial services and interment at Holy Cross Hermitage Monastery in Wayne, WV on December 21, 2013. A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Holy Trinity Hellenic Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., Lowell, MA 01854.
