Joseph Hart
Lowell, MA native, was college professor; 79

PUNTA GORDA, Florida -- Joseph Hart, 79, a long-time resident of Punta Gorda, Florida, died peacefully on December 5, 2013, at Palms of Punta Gorda.

Joe was born in Lowell, MA to the late Lawrence and Katherine Hart. He graduated from Keith Academy and Merrimack College and received a Masters degree from the University of Massachusetts. He earned a Ph D. in biology from UCLA.

He taught for many years at Merrimack College in Massachusetts, and later at Edison College in Fort Myers after moving to Florida.

Joe enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. He was active in the Port Charlotte Performing Art Center and had roles in several musicals. He had been a cantor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He is survived by his brother, Thomas Hart of Ponte Vedra, FL; his niece, Mary Kate Hart of Frederick, MD, and nephews, Peter Hart of Port-St-Lucie, FL, and John Hart of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Also surviving are cousins, Carol Vaillencourt and Patricia McNerney of Dunstable, MA, and Richard McNerney of Houston, TX.

Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Lowell, MA.
