Margaret T. 'Peggy' O'Neill

DRACUT-- Mrs. Margaret T. (Riley) O'Neill, 92, of Dracut, died Friday, May 16th, peacefully in her home surrounded by family.
Peggy was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on November 14, 1921, the daughter of the late Lowell Atty. James H. and the late Pearl T. (Peltier) Riley. She grew up in the Christian Hill section of Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1939.
Peggy graduated from Emmanuel College in Boston with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1943, and studied for her Master's Degree in Education in 1944 at the University of New Hampshire with additional graduate work at Lowell State College (now University of Massachusetts Lowell). Peggy initially taught in the New Hampshire school districts of Newmarket and Farmington before joining the Dracut Public Schools in 1949, where she taught Social Studies at Dracut High School, then located on Greenmont Avenue. Peggy was a very loved and respected schoolteacher in Dracut throughout her tenure until she retired from the Dracut Public Schools in 1988.
Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a popular teacher, an accomplished pianist, and an avid gardener.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 60 years, William F. O'Neill, of Dracut, retired Director of Elementary Education, Dracut Public Schools; two daughters, Judith O'Neill, MD, of Westminster, Mass. and Donna O'Neill and her husband, Rodney Parkin who reside in Sydney, Australia; son William F. O'Neill, Jr. and his wife, Melissa of Shoreham, Vermont and their children, Peggy's grandchildren, Virginia and Patrick O'Neill; the late beloved son, James A. O'Neill, who passed away in 1987; her niece, Kathleen O'Neill of Plymouth, Mass.; as well as several cousins in the Greater Lowell area.
O'NEILL -- Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 LAKEVIEW AVENUE, DRACUT on Monday, May 19th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, May 20th at 9:30 AM followed by her Funeral Mass in ST. MARY MAGDALEN CHURCH IN TYNGSBOROUGH at 10:30 AM. Burial to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. Those who wish may make a donation in Peggy's memory to St. Mary Magdalen Parish Building Fund, P.O. Box 100, Tyngsborough, MA 01879.
