Paul 'Alan' Bell
March 12, 1946 - June 19, 2014
Paul "Alan" Bell, beloved husband of Dolores Bell, died Thursday, June 19, 2014.
Alan was a Purple Heart decorated Vietnam Veteran who after being honorably discharged from the Army's 35th Regiment (Cacti) returned to college earning a Bachelor of Science in Education/Industrial Education from Keene State College.
Alan spent over 30 years in the classroom. In 2006, he retired from Greater Lowell Technical High School Technology Cluster.
In 1975, Alan joined the Rindge NH Fire/Rescue Dept. working his way through the ranks retiring in 1995 with the title of Deputy Chief. Alan served along side his best friend of 40 years. Bob Lapointe. He was one of the first nationally certified EMTs in the country. He was also an SCBA instructor at Meadowood Fire School for many years and a Fire Warden for the State of NH.
Alan was a proud member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Aaron A Weaver Chapter 776 in Lecanto, Florida where he recently achieved the rank of Sr. Vice-Commander. He was a member of Viet Nam Veterans of America and the VFW Post 10209 in Spring Hill, FL where he was a member of the Honor Guard.
Alan loved to camp and he and Dolores met the most wonderful people from all over the world. They especially enjoyed their time in Maine.
Alan was an avid kayaker, and loved his time spent on the water (and lunch) with his fellow SWAMPERS.
Besides his wife, Alan is survived by his devoted service dog, Sadie; four children; a grandson; his brother, Barry and sister-in-law, Nancy; and several nephews and nieces.
Following a Memorial gathering in Lowell MA in October, interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Donations may be made in Alan's name to the following nonprofit organization that provides service dogs to veterans free of charge: Partners for Patriots, PO Box 3909, Spring Hill, FL 34611.
