Veteran WWII and Korean Wars

CHELMSFORD -- Peter S. Pedulla, 87, longtime resident of Chelmsford. Family, faith and love. These are the words that best describe the life of Peter S. Pedulla throughout his life until his last day on March 13, 2014. Loving husband of Marianne (Sica) Pedulla. Beloved father of Thomas Pedulla and his wife, Christine Aquilino of Arlington, Paul Pedulla and his partner, Dr. Lawrence Ferrara of Cambridge, Pete Pedulla of Lowell, and Maryellen (Pedulla) McDonnell and her husband, Tim of Arlington. Devoted "Papa" to two grandchildren, Nolan and Carys McDonnell. Eldest son of the late Thomas S. Pedulla and the late Carmella (Campagna) Pedulla of Somerville, beloved brother of the late Frank J. Pedulla and his surviving wife, Loraine of Burlington, Thomas V. Pedulla and his wife, Patricia of Framingham, and Marie (Pedulla) Woznik and her husband, Theodore (Skip) of Woburn. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and associates.

Peter was born on February 16, 1927 in Cambridge but home was in Somerville. He graduated from Somerville High School in February of 1945 in the accelerated program for students who were turning 18 years old before June, 1945. He joined the US Coast Guard in early February, 1945 to serve for the duration of WWII. After boot camp, he was assigned to the USS Eridanus, AKA-92, served in the Pacific Theater and discharged in May, 1946.

He then joined the US Navy Reserve in 1947 and was called for service in February, 1951 during the Korean War. Assigned to the USS Cambria AP 92 and served with the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean as a MM3 and discharged in February, 1952.

Playing the saxophone brought Peter much joy in the late 1940s and 1950s, especially accompanied by his pianist wife Marianne and the ten-piece band they formed. "Marianne and Her Orchestra" played throughout the Boston area and was a much sought after band.

After graduating from Fisher College in 1951 and Northeastern University with a BBA in 1958, Peter also graduated from the Advanced Management Development Program conducted by Northeastern University at Phillips Academy in Andover.

He retired from Visible Systems Corporation in 1995 as Vice President, Treasurer and Director; prior to that was Vice President, Finance and Director at Signatron Corporation from 1984 to 1987. From 1962 to 1984, Peter served as Manager of Accounting, Director of Corporate Financial Planning, Assistant Corporate Controller and Vice President and Corporate Controller at Itek Corporation.

He was an active member of the Financial Executives Institute, Member Emeritus of the Institute of Management Accountants and the Corporate Controllers' Institute of America.

Grateful for his many blessings, Peter gave back to his community, serving six years on the Chelmsford Council on Aging at the Senior Center, Assistant Treasurer of the Friends of the Senior Center, and a member of the Chelmsford Cemetery Commission. He was also a member of the American Legion.

For over 50 years a communicant of Saint Mary Church in Chelmsford, Peter served as member of the building committee that raised funds for the construction of the present church. He also served as the first President of the Parish Council, as well as an usher and lector.

PEDULLA -- PETER S. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 8 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 o'clock at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Road, Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
