TYNGSBOROUGH -- Philip J. Salome, 62, a resident of Tyngsborough and a well known retired Lowell Police Officer, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014, in West Palm Beach, Florida with his loving wife, Chrissy at his side.

Phil was the beloved husband of Christine A. (Robinson) Salome with whom he recently celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, July 18, 1951, the cherished son of Muriel C. (Flory) Salome of North Chelmsford and the late John J. Salome, he attended St. Margaret's School and was a graduate of Keith Academy in the Class of 1969.

He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science Degree at the Mass College of Pharmacy in 1978 and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services at New Hampshire College with the Class of 1988.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Phil served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant and a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division.

Phil was appointed a Police Officer, late night shifts, for the City of Lowell on September 10, 1978 and retired on August 31, 2003 after a 25 year career.

In addition to his police career, Phil was a former partner for many years of Roark Irrigation in Chelmsford with his friend, Frank Roark. Later, he worked for Chelmsford Well and Pump for several years.

Phil had many talents and interests in his life. He was a renowned singer who entertained his family, friends and even strangers over the years. He loved to sing and everyone loved to listen to him.

He also had a passion and love for the game of golf. Over the years Phil made many friendships through golf and was always an upbeat, funny and competitive player in any foursome. He was a longtime member of Vesper Country Club and recent member of Bear Lakes Country Club in Florida.

Besides his wife and mother, Phil is survived by two sisters, Barbara J. Dowling and her husband, Michael J. of Dracut, and Martha J. Shay of Lowell; a brother, John "Jack" Salome and his wife, Kathi of Helena, Montana; his father-in-law, Ralph L. Robinson of Nashua, NH; his brother-in-law, Arthur E. Robinson and his wife, Michelle of Gilbert, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He as also the brother of the late Kevin M. Salome who died December 19, 2013.
