NORTH CHELMSFORD, MA -- Ralph R. Abbott of North Chelmsford, MA died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at his home after a brief illness.
He was married to Gladys E. Abbott with whom he celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 15, 2013.
Born in South Barre, MA, he was the son of the late John Sr., and Louise (Kempher) Abbott. He was a graduate of Chelmsford High School with the class of 1939.
He proudly served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of Aviation Metalsmith, Third Class.
Ralph was the past owner and operator of the North Chelmsford Textile Pin Supply Company.
He was a member of the William North Masonic Lodge of Lowell for over sixty years, the Children's Protective Society, the Lowell Humane Society, the Vesper Country Club, the Chelmsford Fire Department, the North Chelmsford Congregational Church and the Chelmsford Senior Care Center. Ralph was a trustee of the Lowell Five Cent Savings Bank.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, David R. Abbott and his wife Trinkle Jones of Tempe, AZ and John E. and his wife Kathleen Abbott of N. Chelmsford. MA; four grandchildren, Mackenzie C. Abbott of Tempe, AZ, Joshua J. and his wife Tammy A. Abbott of Chelmsford, MA, Travis E. Abbott of Portland, OR, Rachel E. Abbott and her longtime companion Joshua P. Rondeau of N. Chelmsford, MA; one great- granddaughter, Lillian L. Abbott of Chelmsford and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John Abbott Jr. of California, the late Arthur Abbott of Chelmsford, the late Marjorie Bergeron of Buzzards Bay, MA, the late Gladys Luke of Chelmsford, and the late Lois Swindells of Hampton, NH.
