WESTFORD -- Richard Joseph "Dick" Mooney, 73, a longtime resident of Westford, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at his home.
He was the beloved husband of Dorothy N. "Dot" (Berg) Mooney with whom he celebrated 47 years of marriage on August 6th.
He was born in Lynn on March 21, 1940 and was a son of the late Walter and Anna (Hannon) Mooney. He received his education in Lynn schools and was a graduate of St. Mary's Boys School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Boston College.
Dick was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 34 years as a Regional Audit Manager for the Defense Contract Audit Agency.
He had many passions in life including all things Irish, tending to his prized day lilies, and 4-H. He was also enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and pro golf and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Dick was actively involved with the 4-H organization for over 40 years and enjoyed his time doing visual presentations, horse bowls, and working the food booth.
He was a leader for the Stonybrook 4-H Saddle Club and was on the board of directors for the Middlesex County 4-H. He was also a member of the Association of Government Accountants.
In addition to his loving wife, Dick is survived by his three children, Erin DeCoste and her husband, Stanley of Lancaster, Kelly Breen and her husband, Mitch of West Townsend, and Kerri Slattery and her husband, Patrick of Tewksbury; six grandchildren, Casey, Bailey, Jessey, Gavin, Hannah, and Ayla; sister, Anne Bresnahan of Lynn; and several nieces and nephews.
MOONEY -- RICHARD JOSEPH "DICK". Visitation will take place TODAY, Thursday, from 4 to 8 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 o'clock at St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, 107 North Main Street, Westford. Interment will be private. Funeral Director, Paul A.
