Richard L. Hebert
of Lowell, Raytheon retiree, Army Vet; 70

LOWELL -- Richard L. Hebert, 70, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2013, at D'Youville Center for Advanced Therapy in Lowell, after a 25 year battle with heart disease and its many complications.

He was the husband of Judith (Grenier) Hebert with whom he celebrated 45 years of marriage this past year.

Richard was born in Lowell on May 19, 1942, the son of the late Leo and Bernadette (Deneault) Hebert. He was a graduate of St. Joseph's Boys High School in Lowell and Merrimack College.

Following high school, he worked at RCA until entering the US Army in 1964. He served at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. While serving, he received the Meritorious Unit Commendation for Service in Vietnam, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He worked for the Equipment Division of Raytheon Company for 35 years before retiring in 2002.

He loved music and dancing and belonged to the Spindle City Singers and Lowell Senior Citizens Choral Group that sang at local nursing homes. In his younger days, he enjoyed square, line and ballroom dancing. He was an avid reader, enjoyed genealogy research and loved to travel. He was a life member of VFW Local 9307. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Judith, he is survived by two sons, Michael and his wife, Bonnie of Wilmington, and Dennis and his wife, Betsy of Chelmsford. Four beautiful grandchildren were the joy of his life, Danielle and Jennifer of Wilmington, and Emma and Hope of Chelmsford. He is also survived by a sister, Juliette Soucy of Lowell; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Janet Hebert of Lowell, Leo and Lorraine Hebert of Methuen; a brother-in-law, Robert Roy of Lowell; a sister-in-law, June Camber and her partner Steve Johnson of Templeton; an aunt and uncle, Peggy and Paul Hebert of Acton; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by a sister, Rachel Roy, and brother-in-law, Joseph Soucy.

HEBERT -- Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, on Monday, Feb. 25 from 4 until 8 pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Church, Dracut. Interment with Military Honors to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
