Robert E. 'Bob' Martin United States Navy and United States Air Force Veteran -- LOWELL -- Robert E. "Bob" Martin, 85, of Lowell, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Maureen (Redding) Martin, whom he met while stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base. He shared 47 beloved years of marriage with Maureen before she passed away in 2003. He was born on August 31, 1927, in El Reno, Oklahoma, and he was a son of the late Noah Martin, and the late Erma (Sells) Martin. He grew up and was educated in El Reno, Oklahoma. Mr. Martin served with the United States Navy for two years on the U.S.S. Texas during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he joined the United States Air Force, serving all around the world for 20 years, earning the rank of Tech Sergeant before his second honorable discharge. He resided in the Belvidere section of the city, and was a communicant of St. Margaret's Parish. He was employed as a letter carrier for over 20 years for the Post Office in Andover, MA. Bob enjoyed gambling, especially scratch tickets and taking trips to Foxwoods. He enjoyed sports, and was an avid Patriots fan. Most of all, he adored his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Bob's family would like to thank the staff at the Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus, Cardiology Rehab, and the Dialysis Unit in Lowell for their loving care they gave to Bob during his illness. He is survived by three sons, Robert Martin and his wife, Cynthia of Lowell, Kerry Martin and his wife, Kathleen of Stoneham, and Daniel 'Buddy' Martin of Lowell; three granddaughters, Heather Stice and her husband, Brian of Raymond, NH, Amanda Martin of Lowell, and Kelsey Martin of Lowell; two great grandsons, Mason Stice and Nolan Stice both of Raymond, NH; a brother, Noah Martin of Chino Valley, AZ; a brother in law, Joseph 'Buddy' Redding of Washington D.C.; and a sister in law, Carol Redding of North Carolina. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his close friends, Arthur, Bob, and Rob; and his many dear friends at the Cameo Diner.
