FLORIDA -- Robert Edward Cregg, 79, formerly of Lowell, MA died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 6th at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Florida, surrounded by his loving family and his passing was comfortable and peaceful. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Ogiba) Cregg, his wife of 57 years.
Robert was born on July 14, 1933 in Lowell, MA. He was the son of James Cregg and Helen (Newell) Cregg. He proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the U.S Air Force. He was a member of the Knight of Columbus and the American Legion.
Robert was employed for 29 years at the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, where he retired with the rack of Captain.
He loved walking the beach in Florida, golfing and history of any era, especially military history. He was well versed in current events and enjoyed "spirited" conversation on a variety of subjects, such as politics, the economy, and of course the local sports teams. He was quick witted and all who knew him will miss his sense of humor. But his most cherished time was spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grand child. He loved learning the interests of all of them, from sports to fashion and music. He would often travel to participate in many of their events.
In addition to his wife his is survived by his sons Robert and his wife Kerry of Sandown; NH, Kenneth and his wife Gail of Lowell, MA; Joseph and his wife Sheila of Baldwinville, MA; Christopher and his wife Susan of Pelham, NH; his Daughter Joni (Kowalchuck) and her husband Robert of Raymond, NH; grandchildren Elizabeth, Sean, Lindsay, Kyle, Kelsey, Erik, Craig, Casey, Matthew, Erin, Crystal, Christopher, and great-grandchild Avery. He is also survived by his brothers Eugene, Frank, John, Edward and his sisters, Eleanor, Dorothy, Donna and Charlotte. He was also the brother of the late Joan Cardello, James, David and Kevin Cregg. He was predeceased by his grandson Jeffrey.
CREGG -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13th at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT. His funeral will take place from the funeral home at 8;30 a.m. on THURSDAY, February 14th with his funeral mass to follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Margaret's Church in Lowell. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. at The Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon, MA. Those who may wish attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
