City Project Director for Lowell & Lexington
NASHUA , NH -- William (Bill) Kealy, of Nashua, NH, formerly of Lowell and Dracut, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, MA.
Born in Lowell, MA, he was the son of the late William P. and Margaret M. Kealy. After graduating from St. Patrick School, he entered the seminary at Miramar in Island Creek, MA. He then continued his seminary studies in New York State. Later, he graduated from Merrimack College in Andover, MA. He was a former member of the U.S. Army Reserves.
Bill began his career working as a reporter for the Lowell Sun and he eventually assumed the position of City Hall reporter. Following his career at the Lowell Sun, he was named Executive Director of the Redevelopment Authority in Lowell, a position he held for several years. Later, he held the position of Special Projects Director for the City of Lowell. As Project Director, he supervised the building of seven elementary schools, a junior high school, and the renovation of Lowell High School.
In addition, he oversaw the building of four city parking garages, the water treatment plant and the renovation of the Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Bill was most recently the former Project Manager for the Town of Lexington. In this role, Bill was especially proud of his role in the renovation of the Cary Library. He also helped to build and renovate many schools in the town.
In his free time, Bill enjoyed fantasy football, horse racing and spending time with his friends at the Athenian Corner restaurant. He looked forward to going every season to the horse races at Saratoga Springs in NY.
Besides his wife, Terese (Brunelle) Kealy of Dracut, he is survived by three sons, William A. Kealy Jr. and his companion, Lorraine Burgoyne, of Mashpee, MA, Scott Kealy and his wife, Roberta Kealy, of Dracut, MA, and Glenn Kealy and his wife, Florentine Kealy, of Dracut, MA. He is also survived by one brother, Robert M. Kealy and his wife, Patricia A. Kealy, of Chelmsford, MA. William leaves five grandchildren: Alanna Rose Kealy, Sacha Erin Kealy, Justin Saucier, Michael Kelley and Michael McHugh. He also leaves a great-grandson, Walter Scott Toomey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, John and Peter.
He will be sadly missed by his devoted companion, Cynthia Purdis, and two special friends, James Campbell and Cliff Moran.
