CHELMSFORD -- Yvonne P. (Pratt) Grant, 92, a resident of Chelmsford and former longtime resident of Lexington, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, April 19, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late John E. Grant, who died in 2001.
She was born in Hemphill, TX on June 7, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Henry and Roberta (Tatom) Pratt. She was raised and educated in Hemphill.
Yvonne proudly served her country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, during which time she crossed the Atlantic Ocean 16 times.
She spent most of her life tending to the needs of her home and family and she had worked in retail for many years.
In her free time, Yvonne enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, reading, journaling, and spending time with her many dogs throughout the years named Sam Houston. Her most treasured time was time spent with her loving family.
She is survived by her three sons, John P. Grant and his wife Robin of Chelmsford, Michael T. Grant and his wife Karen of Norwell, and Casey C. Grant and his wife Cathy of Belmont; her daughter, Susan Y. Vassallo and her husband Paul of Townsend; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandson Brendan Grant and her ten siblings.
GRANT -- Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Thursday from 4 until 8 pm. Her Funeral Service will be held at Bourne National Veterans' Cemetery on Friday at 12:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Brendan Grant Foundation, P.O.
