Billie Jean Melton LUBBOCK- Billie Jean Melton passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on March 3, 2013 in Lubbock, Texas. Born on March 11, 1929 in Merkel, Texas, Jean met her husband, D.R. Slim Melton in July 1945. They were married in Abilene, Texas on Dec. 3, 1945. They lived in Kermit for 45 years and moved to Odessa in 1991. They enjoyed 63 years together before he went to meet his Lord on Dec. 19, 2008. Jean was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ in Kermit for 45 years where she taught Bible classes. She was also involved in the , the American Cancer Network, the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Post #4372, the Parkinson's Disease Support Group of Odessa, served on the board of directors of the Permian High School (Mojo) football booster club, and was a member of the Permian High School baseball booster club. She is survived by three children, Sharon Hale and spouse Dan of Lubbock, Texas, Karen Shelton of Odessa, Texas, and Mike Melton of Henderson, Texas. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren including, Amy Hale-Janeke, Amanda Hale, and Alanna Blu. Uriah Blu and Islah Blu are among the ten great-grandchildren she leaves behind. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Hubbard Kelley funeral home in Odessa, Texas on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Funeral services at will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the 6th and Jackson Church of Christ in Odessa. Internment will be at Memorial Gardens to follow. Memorials may be made in her honor to the Odyssey Hospice, 4th floor, 1717A Norfolk Ave, Lubbock, TX 79416.
