Cal V. Urias SLATON-Rosary service for Cal Urias, 72, of Slaton, will be 6 p.m. today, Oct. 13, 2013, in Englunds Chapel. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Cal was born in Fort Stockton, on Nov. 11, 1940. He passed from this life Friday, Oct. 11, 2013. Cal graduated from Stanton High School in 1960. He worked for Hall Auto Parts, Tidwell Chevrolet, and Fina Oil in Big Spring, prior to his entry to the US Army in November of 1963 and after his discharge in November of 1965. Cal served in the Vietnam War. Cal was a member of Slaton's VFW Post and past Commander of the Luther Powers American Legion Post in Slaton. Cal married Monica Marie Marquez on June 7, 1966, in St. Thomas Catholic Church in Big Spring. They moved to Lubbock in 1969 and to Slaton in 1971. He worked for Devro Inc. He entered the U.S. Postal Service in 1982 and retired in 2009. Along with his wife, Monica, Cal is also survived by his daughter, Laurie and husband David McVicker of Slaton; three sons, Ramon and wife Taryn Urias of San Antonio, James and wife Misty Urias of Slaton, Javier Urias and partner Joseph Maldonado of Baytown; brothers, Hijinio V. Urias of Amarillo, and Joe Urias of Kansas City, Mo.; along with eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials to the Disabled American Veterans, 7414 83rd St., Lubbock, TX 79424.
