Ethel Claire Burleson LUBBOCK - Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Ethel Claire Burleson today, Jan. 15, 2014 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers with burial following at Resthaven Memorial Park. Ethel went to be with the Lord on Jan. 8, 2014. Ethel was born on Feb. 21, 1922 in Quapaw, Oklahoma to Ethel Eudora (Teague) Raney and Ernest Claude Raney, as their only child. She grew up in a series of small towns including Happy, White Deer, and Muleshoe. Ethel graduated from Amherst High School, and then attended SMU for one year and graduated from the University of Texas in 1944 with a degree in Journalism. She married Robert Bruce Burleson Jr. in Lubbock. They moved to Boise, ID and then to Boulder, CO where they lived for many years. Later, Ethel moved back to Lubbock to be near her parents, and then to Santa Maria, CA, to be close to her grandchildren. She returned to Lubbock again in 1995, and then moved to Houston in 2011. She is preceded in death by her husband Bruce Jr. in 2006 and her son, Brant, in 2010. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Dehler of Berthoud, CO; a son, Bob Burleson of Houston; a sister-in-law, Erina Burleson of Layfayette, IN; and four grandchildren, Kyle, Chelsea, Jesalyn, and Carson.
