Fred M. Long GRANBURY- Fred M. Long, 73, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013, in Glen Rose after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Lakeside Baptist Church. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Fred was born July 14, 1939, in Brownfield, Texas, to Robert and Annie Mae Long, the third of eight children. He was raised in Brownwood, Texas and graduated from Brownwood High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and after being honorably discharged continued in the active reserve for 32 years. He was employed by the Texas Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1995. He was then employed by Texas A&M and the University of Texas as a consultant in bridge construction inspection. He retired in 2004 to enjoy his life at Pecan Plantation in Granbury, Texas. Fred married Viki Nichols in Lubbock, Texas, where they lived until their retirement in 2004. They are the parents of Jeffrey Wayne Long and Randal Fred Long. Fred was a Christian, patriot, husband, father, and grandfather. He loved God, the United States, and his family and was devoted to truth and honor. Fred was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Larry Neal and Bobby Gene. Survivors include his wife, Viki; daughter, Cammie Camp and husband, Mike, of Longview; son, Jeff Long and wife, Diana, of Garland, Randy Long of Granbury; grandchildren, Brandon, Levi and Remy Camp, Morgan, Jordan and Haley Long; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Long of El Paso, Robert Long of Lubbock; sisters, Ruby Rice and husband, Garner, of Brownwood, Annette Parsley and husband, Gordon of Kosziuski, Miss., Betty Carroll and husband, Jarrell of Big Spring; numerous nieces, nephews; and many friends.
