Herman Roy Phillips SAN ANGELO-Herman Roy Phillips, 74, passed from this life into eternal life Aug. 17, 2013, at his home in San Angelo, with Carla, his wife of fifty-one years, at his side. By the grace of God, Herman distinguished himself as a husband, father, and grandfather. He lived a life of integrity, uprightness, and godliness, and was a positive influence in his family, as an elder in the Church of Christ, and in his career at Texas Tech University. Herman is sorely missed. The middle of seven children, Herman was born in Miles, June 3, 1939, to Paul and Minnie Phillips. After growing up in Eldorado, he attended Abilene Christian University, where he met Carla Horton; they were married Jan.13, 1962, in Andrews. They lived in College Station while Herman did further study at Texas A&M University, then in Las Vegas, Nev., and Austin, before moving to Lubbock, where they lived thirty-two years, and reared their sons, Mark and Mike. Herman is survived by Carla, Mark and his wife Laura of Abilene, Mike and his wife Christy of Murphy; and grandchildren, Allison, Emily, Paul, James, and Luke. A grandson, Matthew, preceded him in death. Herman is also survived by siblings: Anne Smith, John and Becky Phillips, Nita Cox, and Molly and Byron Bruce, all of San Angelo; Vernon and Barbara Phillips of Roby; Pat and Dalton Robbins of Lewisville; and Joe Phillips of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and by numerous nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to Kay Clarke and Kevin Kelly of San Angelo, Leslie Case of McKinney, and Roseline Ngaaje of Wylie, who provided years of kind, loving, and dignified care. Appreciation is also extended to the compassionate staff of Hospice of San Angelo. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, 435 West Beauregard Avenue, San Angelo. Memorial suggestions include Sunset International Bible Institute, 3723 34th Street, Lubbock 79410, and Rust Street Ministries, 803 Rust Street, San Angelo 76903.
