Hortense Hudnall Poteet LITTLEFIELD-In the calm, quiet dark of early morning on August 2nd, 2013, Hortense Hudnall Poteet, 92, of Muleshoe slipped her earthly bonds and passed through the pearly gates of Heaven to join her spouse of 49 years, her family, and friends. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, in Hammons Memorial Chapel, Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield, with Bob Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Hammons Funeral Home. Born May 7, 1921, she was a product of the depression and dust bowl, growing up on the plains of Texas in Earth and Lazbuddie. Hortense was a schoolteacher, getting her degree in home economics from West Texas State University in Canyon. She taught homemaking and English at Spade ISD and Springlake-Earth. Being a favored but strict teacher, she was chosen as class sponsor and served as mentor to many students. Hortense was a unique and kind woman, marching to her own drum. She worked hard, much of the time in the field, to provide for her family, and she was always willing to share what she had with others. Hortense also gave selflessly of her time and energy. She enjoyed sewing, making many clothes including a wedding gown for her daughter-in-law and daughter. She also crafted many unique wedding, birthday, graduation, and special occasion picture albums. Marrying George Calvin Poteet on November 22, 1947, at Lazbuddie, they raised a family of three. Those left to cherish her memory are son, Tony and wife Mary Ann of Wolfforth; grandsons, Lynn Rice of Flower Mound and Jason Wade of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Dagmar Poteet of Carmine; daughter, Regina Finke and husband David of Canyon; granddaughter, Kira Finke of Canyon, and Davidson Finke of Canyon; seven great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Madelyn, William, Jordan Myles, Lexi, Gracie, and Brendon.
