John L. Holzapfel LUBBOCK-Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of John L. Holzapfel, 77, of Lubbock this evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, in Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. David Savage officiating. John went to be with the Lord on Feb. 20, 2013. John was born on Feb. 13, 1936, to Marvin and Mary (Lassiter) Holzapfel in Nashville, Tenn. He moved to Lubbock as a child and graduated from Lubbock High School. After graduation, John enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Reserves and served from 1956 to 1964. He worked as a patrolman for both the DPS and Texas Tech University. Moving to Nashville in the mid 70s, John worked for Sunbeam Bakery and St. Claire's Restaurant. He moved back to Lubbock in the 80s and managed several Jolly Roger and 7-11 convenience stores until his retirement. John was an avid sports fan and attended Trinity Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Candace Bogard; and a brother-in-law, J.T. Bogard. He is survived by a sister, Dean Bogard; a nephew, Marvin Bogard, both of Lubbock; a niece, Tina Macha and husband Melvin of Slaton; three great-nieces, Joy Crockett and husband Scott, Joni Burke and husband Shawn, and Alisha Gault and husband Dustin; a great-nephew, David Stotts; two great-great nephews, Aiden and Landon Crockett; and a great-great niece, Kyndall Gault.
