John Porter LEVELLAND-Funeral services for John Porter, 69, of Levelland will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Cactus Drive Church of Christ, Levelland, with Randy Porter and William Eudy officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home, Levelland. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday, July 26, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. John died on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Born in Levelland on Jan. 9, 1944, to John Charles and Ruby Catherine (Hill) Porter, John attended and graduated from Levelland Schools in 1962. He then attended and graduated from South Plains College in 1964 and married JoAnn Holloway that same year. In 1968 he enlisted in the US Air Force and served until 1972. On July 1, 1972, he married Paige Leslie in Gallup, N.M. He returned to Levelland and farmed on the family farm north of Levelland for several years. In 1988, John went to work for the Levelland School District and retired in 2006. Over the years, John had been an agent for Germania Insurance and he and his wife were still operating the agency at the time of his death. John was an active member of Cactus Drive Church of Christ in Levelland. Survivors include his wife: Paige Porter of Levelland; four sons: Eddie Ray Porter of Odessa, Texas, Randy Joe Porter of Levelland, Billy Jay Porter of Pearland and Brady Lee Porter of Lubbock; and a daughter, Carla Jo Payne of Slidell, Texas; his sister: Catherine Walker and her husband, Ned, of Bueno Vista, N.M.; four grandchildren: Kelton James Porter, Samuel Josiah Porter, Emma Brooke Porter and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Porter. John loved to select a family at Christmas time and give them a Christmas that they could not afford, and the family suggests memorials so that this ministry could be continued.
