Lucille Luci Melcher LUBBOCK-Private funeral mass for Lucille (Luci) Nicholas Melcher of Lubbock was held on Jan. 20, 2014, at St. Elizabeth's Historic Catholic Church with Father Emiliano Zapata officiating. Burial followed in Englewood Cemetery, Slaton, Texas, under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Luci departed this life on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on July 11, 1925, in New York City, N.Y., to Thomas H. and Isabelle Nicholas. She attended Hunter College in New York City, was president of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, and was a personal shopper for Saks Fifth Ave. while attending college. She married Ensign Lawrence A. Melcher on June 14, 1946, in New York City. After Lawrence graduated from law school at the University of Texas, Austin, Texas, they moved to Lubbock in 1950. Luci was an interior designer at Cagle's Fine Furniture for 42 years and for Spears Furniture for six years. She was an avid reader, and upon retirement became a volunteer reading resource aide at Bayless and Hunt Elementary schools in Lubbock, where she was fondly known as Miss Luci. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church since 1950, and Literacy for Lubbock. Luci is survived by her husband, Lawrence A. Melcher; daughters, Melynie Greaser (Bill) and Mellisa Talley (Don), all of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren, Amanda Ellison (Brad), Jaret Greaser (Adrienne) of Lubbock, Elizabeth Talley and David Talley, both of Amarillo; and great-grandchildren, Ashtyn and Lauryn Ellison, Anastyn, Jackson, and J. Ford Greaser, all of Lubbock. Special gratitude goes to Luci's friend and personal assistant, Calessa Brusewitz.
