Marvin M. Drake LUBBOCK-Marvin M. Drake, 81, of Ropesville, Texas, and of Lubbock, Texas, passed away June 29, 2013, in Denton, Texas. He died of kidney disease. We wish to thank all his doctors and nurses who were so very kind, as well as Ann's Haven Hospice (VNA) Visiting Nurses Angels. He willed his body to UT Southwestern Medical School of Dallas. Marvin M. Drake was born April 8, 1932, in Clarendon, Texas, to W.O. and Ruby Furgason Drake. He moved to Ropesville when he was 6, where he grew up, and graduated in 1951. He went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company; he then joined the Air Force on Jan. 6, 1951 to Jan. 5, 1955, where he received an honorable discharge as a Staff Sgt. He returned to work for S.W. Bell, where he made his career with Bell. His title was mgr. of network maintenance. He retired in 1987 with 37 1/2 years. He married Gwendolyn Douglas on June 2, 1956, and they had four children. He is survived by his wife of 57 years; children, Rhonda St. James of Denton, Rebecca and Rabun Williams of Southlake, Steven and Debbie Drake of Katy, Stacey and Sam Binford of Muenster; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, J.T. and Wanda Drake of Ropesville, and Bob and Mary Drake of Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Oliver Drake, and sisters, Francis Shaver and Margie Forbis. He was a beloved husband, father, brother and Pops. A memorial service will be held July 13, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Ropesville United Methodist Church.
