Mary Louise Ruiz SLATON-A rosary for Mary Louise Ruiz, 68, of Slaton will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, in Englunds Chapel with the Guadalupanas leading. Celebration of life mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, in Slaton's Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Chacko Thadathil officiating. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Mrs. Ruiz was born in Slaton on Jan. 20, 1946. She passed from this life Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at home surrounded by her family. Mary Louise was a lifelong resident of Slaton and attended Slaton ISD. She married Benito Ben Ruiz on May 21, 1965, in Lubbock. She had been secretary to the Slaton police chief and a certified law enforcement officer. She was also a member of Lubbock's Legal Secretary Association. Mary Louise worked and retired from Poole Chemical after 20 years as a secretary. She was a member of the Slaton Rotary Club, past president of Slaton's Women's Chamber of Commerce, and served as the 36th Precinct Democratic Election Judge. Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Epimenio and Juantia Solis; and siblings, Pete Solis, Ruby Chepa Benavidez, Moma Benavidez, Tina Gonzales, and Nina Ybarra. Her survivors include her husband, Ben; and son, Larry Joe, both of Slaton; daughter, Irene Ruiz of Garland; brother, Alfonso Solis and twin sister, Mary Rita Garcia, both of Slaton; along with grandchildren, Karman Bernal, Katlyn Rodriquez, and Kurstin Rodriquez; and a great-grandson.
