Raymond Ray Garibay LUBBOCK-Memorial services for Raymond Ray Garibay, 56, of Virginia will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, in Sanders Memorial Chapel with Tommy Horsford officiating. Cremation services were under the care of Sanders Funeral Home. Ray passed away on March 10, 2013. Ray was born on Nov. 22, 1956, in Lubbock, Texas, and was raised on the family farm in Lubbock and Cotton Center. He resided in Herndon, Va., at the time of his death. Ray graduated as salutatorian of his class from Cotton Center High School in 1974. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in sociology and M.S. in rural sociology. While enrolled at Texas A&M University in the doctoral studies program, he was given the opportunity to go to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. During his almost 28-year career with the USDA, Ray worked in Kansas, Tennessee, Washington State, Maryland and Washington, D.C. Because of his strong work ethic, he was able to achieve many things and receive various recognitions. He retired from the agency in June 2011. Loved ones include his parents, Alfred and Georgia Garibay; sister, Yolanda Montemayor and husband Ruben; sister-in-law, Mary Garibay; nephews, Jamie Garibay and Brian Garibay; and great-nephews and great-niece, Jordan, Jackson and Maddie Garibay. Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Garibay. Ray was a people person with a big heart. We love him and will miss him dearly, but are grateful for the wonderful memories he left us with.
