Robert Lee Bob Champion DENVER CITY-Funeral services for Robert Lee Bob Champion, 89, of Denver City will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Denver City Church of Christ with Brother Skip Rodgers officiating. Graveside services will follow on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Cottonwood, Texas, with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City. Robert passed away Sept. 23, 2013, in Denver City. Bob was born on July 23, 1924, in Cottonwood, Texas, to Calvin and Alice Champion. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Robert married Murl Murt Barnett on April 2, 1950, in Hobbs, N.M., who preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1998. He later married Lillian Ray Cloud in Denver City on Aug. 7, 2001. Bob retired from El Paso Natural Gas after 37 years as a plant operator. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Claud Champion. Bob is survived by his wife, Lillian Ray Champion; two daughters, Debbie Crowley and husband Bob of Houston and Deena Mitchell and husband Dale of Katy; a stepson, Jerry Wayne Cloud and wife Dora of Clayton, N.M.; two stepdaughters, Ann Richardson and husband Jerry of Denver City, Vicki Williams and husband Randy of Levelland; a sister, Viola Turnbough and husband David of Lubbock; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Bob was loved by all and an inspiration to many. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary Pink Pantry C/o Yoakum County Hospital at 412 Mustang, Denver City, Texas, or the New Mexico Children's Home of Portales, NM, at 1356 New Mexico Hwy 236, Portales, NM, 88130-9411.
