Alfred Marion Ward, 70, of Crockett, was born May 27, 1944 in Framingham, Massachusetts and went to his Heavenly Home on Monday, July 21, 2014 in Houston, after a long courageous battle that lasted seven years with multiple myeloma. He was affectionately known as Mickey, Big Al, Daddy and Bobum. Al graduated from East Side High School in Patterson, New Jersey. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving with the 555th Red Horse Squadron in Cam Rahn Bay during the Vietnam War. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. Al then went to work for the Bendix Corporation in Teterboro, New Jersey where he worked on altimeters and automatic pilots for air planes until his job ended in 1969. He moved to Crockett, Texas and started to work alongside his father-in-law and mother-in-law at Lansford Refrigeration Service and later owned and operated Lansford Refrigeration Sales Service and Parts until his health failed on July 13, 2007. Al was an avid bowler and horse shoe pitcher, winning many trophies from his competitions. He was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, teacher in the Youth Department, sound technician, videographer and many other capacities for many years. Al had also been a member and past president of the Evening Lions Club and Crockett Classic Cruisers where he was instrumental in organizing the Car Show at Christmas in Crockett. He loved his family and was proud of each one of them and all of their accomplishments. Al will be truly missed. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years and 8 months, Kathryn Louise Lansford Ward of Crockett; three children, Amanda Louise Ward Walling and husband, Theron of Crockett, Audra Leigh Ward Ainsworth and husband, Patric of Lufkin, Alfred Michael Ward of Houston; grandsons, Barrett Ray Steed of Grapeland, Bradley Michael McLendon and girlfriend, Summer Groholski of Houston, Ethan Connor Ainsworth of Lufkin, Timothy Adam Ainsworth and wife, Shelly of The Woodlands, Zachary Lee Ainsworth and wife, Heather of Lufkin, Matthew Cole Walling and fiancé, Chelsea Hillis of Port Lavaca; great-grandchildren, Sean Ainsworth, Dominic Ainsworth, Levi Ainsworth, Ainsley Ainsworth and Maci Ainsworth; sister, Cherylann Ward Groger and husband, Anthony of Rock Hill, South Carolina; brother, James Allen Ward of Dania Beach, Florida; foster brother, Edward Cleaver and wife, Carol of Wayne, New Jersey;brother-in-law, Mike McCarty Lansford, Jr. and wife, Sandra of Huntsville; sisters-in-law, Nita Anne Lansford Reed and husband, Glynn of Crockett, Carolyn Sue Lansford Cerbo and husband, Robert of Lufkin; very special nieces and nephews, Denise, LoriAnn, Nicole, Christian, Melissa, Rock, Edward, Dorothy, Lacy, Marcus, Jason, Megan, Lisa and Tim; special granddaughter, Nelly Ainsworth and fiancée, Jeremy Ognoskie of Katy; numerous cousins, other relatives and many friends. Preceded in death by parents, Alfred Ristian Ward and Marion Elizabeth (Conklin) Ward; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike McCarty Lansford, Sr. and Catherine Fanelle (Skipper) Lansford. A Celebration of life for Alfred Marion "Al" Ward will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Goss officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Friday evening beginning at 5 until 8 p.m. Pallbearers include Barrett Steed, Bradley McLendon, Connor Ainsworth, Adam Ainsworth, Zach Ainsworth and Cole Walling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 601 Seventh Street, Crockett, Texas 75835.
