Services for Dr. Henry E. McCullough, Jr., 85, of Lufkin, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Andy Salagaj officiating. Dr. McCullough was born October 22, 1928 in Dallas, Texas, the son of the late Willie Ruth Bigham McCullough and Henry E. McCullough, Sr. He passed away on December 14, 2013 at Hospice in the Pines after a brief illness. Dr. McCullough was stationed in Japan during the Korean War and later attended North Texas State University, earning his Master of Business Administration and Doctorate of Education. Dr. McCullough moved to Lufkin in 1968 and was a founding faculty member at Angelina College, where he served as Dean of Instruction for more than 15 years. Dr. McCullough later served as President of Cisco Junior College, after which he retired in 1988. Dr. McCullough was an ardent supporter of the Nursing Program at Angelina College and an encourager for those interested in seeking a college education. During his retirement years, he was an active volunteer at Memorial Health System of Lufkin and was a member of the Caleb Sunday School Class at Lufkin First Assembly. In addition to his parents, Dr. McCullough was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Janice Guthrie McCullough; and by his first wife of 25 years, Nelda Bess Floyd McCullough who passed away in 1978; and sister, Patricia McCullough West of Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. McCullough ('Pepaw') was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by daughters, Rose McCullough of Angleton, Texas; Mina Young and husband, Mike, of Huntersville, North Carolina; son, William McCullough and wife, Marianne, of Cedar Park, Texas; daughters, Kay Rose and husband, Ron, of Alto, Texas; and Lesa Chandler and husband, David, of Lufkin, Texas; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Dr. McCullough's honorary pallbearers include his sons-in-law and grandsons. Memorial contributions may be made to Lufkin First Assembly, 2021 South John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, TX 75901 and Hospice in the Pines, 1504 West Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service on Tuesday. Condolences may be offered at www.gipsonfuneralhome.com.
