Herbert Douglas Sanders, 79, of Huntington, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013 at Memorial Health System of East Texas in Lufkin. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Sand Hill Cemetery near Colmesneil. Officiating will be Brother Cary Modisett. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Herbert was born Feb. 20, 1934 to Samuel Douglas and Annie Belle Colwell Sanders in Broaddus. He was a lifelong resident of East Texas and was a carpenter with Duncan Construction. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jimmy Sanders and son-in-law, L.A. Wilkie, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Earlene Sanders of Huntington; son, Jimmy Sanders of Silsbee; daughter, Patricia Wilkie of Huntington; brothers, Gerald Sanders and wife, Estelle of Huntington, Donald Sanders and wife, Shirley of Etoile, and Elmer Sanders and wife, Lynn of Huntington; sister, Ima Burden and husband, Wayne of Zavalla; grandchildren, Naomi Sanders, Jennifer Sanders, Heather Sanders, Tanya Sanders, Starla and Nathan McKay, Jason and Sue Ann Perkins, Douglas and Terri Wilkie, and Alan and Staci Wilkie; great-grandchildren, 24; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
