Ms. Kathleen Louise Carson, age 64, passed away at her residence on May 2, 2013, after a sudden but courageous battle with internal cancer. She was the second oldest of five children, born on March 4, 1949 in Sterling, Illinois to parents Jeanne Longabaugh Carson and Lawrence Washington 'Kit' Carson. Ms. Carson is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lee Eugene Carson. Kathy is survived by her brother, Charlie Carson and his wife, Paulette, of Nogalus Prairie, her sisters, Susan Huffman and her husband, Jan, of Newton, Massachusetts, and Nancy Conley and her husband, Bernard, of Lufkin, as well as several nieces and nephews. Kathy graduated from the Kinkaid School of Houston, Texas in 1967, and after two years at Southwest Texas State University in Georgetown, earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, Austin in 1971. After teaching at Dulles High School for three years, Kathy lived for several years in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to manage business operations for the Health Sciences Consortium. Later, while she pursued an advanced Accounting degree from the University of Maine in Portland in 1986, Kathy opened an avant-garde Tex-Mex restaurant in Brunswick, Maine, called simply, 'Tacos.' After her laudable recovery from a major auto accident, Kathy moved back to Houston and became very active in Republican political interest groups, in addition to becoming very involved at her church, Second Baptist Church of Houston, which she attended with her father. In 2001, she made the transition to Lufkin, where she became a member of Carpenter's Way Baptist Church. Kathy always loved spending time with her family, and spoiling her nieces and nephews whenever she could. Her unwavering sense of humor always brought smiles and chuckles to those around her, and her penchant for the pursuit of education encouraged a desire for knowledge in her family, a rich inheritance for generations to come. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service honoring Kathy on Saturday, May 18th at 11 a.m. at Carpenter's Way Baptist Church, 400 North John Redditt, Lufkin, Texas officiated by Reverend Steve Sparks.
