Sister Mary Lucy of the Incarnation, OP, (Kathryn Lucille Bieter) passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2014 at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in the chapel of the Monastery, followed by interment in the Monastery Cemetery. Bishop Joseph Strickland will officiate with Father Art Kirwin assisting. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus. Sister was born July 4, 1924 in Austin, Texas, of Lucille Byrne and Albert Bieter. She attended Newman Elementary School, Allen Junior High School, St. Mary's Academy and the University of Texas, from which she received a degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music in 1946. Before entering the Monastery, she taught for a number of years in Texas and California. Sister Mary Lucy entered the Monastery on June 13, 1950, made her first profession on July 2, 1952 and her Solemn Profession three years later. In her 64 years in the Monastery, Sister held a variety of duties, including music director, organist, librarian, maintenance supervisor, bursar, and infirmarian. In her first years in the Monastery she also helped to bake Altar breads whose sale to parishes throughout Texas helped to support the new Monastery. Sister was also an accomplished violinist, playing with the Austin Symphony for a time; she often played for liturgy and special occasions at the Monastery. Sister loved her vocation as a Dominican Nun and was always eager to participate in community activities; she continued to perform her work assignments until her final illness just 13 days before her death. She is survived by her sister, Sister Mary Doloretta Bieter, OP; her brother, Albert Bieter, his wife Cari and children; numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. Sister was very devoted to her family and prayed for them constantly. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister Allene Bieter Wofford and her husband Tommy. Join us in thanking God for her long and faithful life as a Dominican Nun. Condolences may be offered at www.gipsonfuneralhome.com. Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
