Obituary
The Guest Book is expired.

Opal Altina Owen Younts, 85, formerly of Agua Dulce, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in Lufkin. She was born on September 23, 1928 in Taft to Thomas B. Owen, Sr. and Alta May Bell. Opal attended Texas A & I University in Kingsville and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. She taught several years in South Texas before moving to Agua Dulce after her marriage to Bobby Ray Younts in 1954. Over the course of her 35 year teaching career, she taught homemaking and several different elementary grades, but fourth grade was her choice. Opal and Bobby were frequent hosts for cookouts in their backyard and terrace. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining. She was very active in P.T.A., the Alpha Study Club, and the Agua Dulce Senior Center. She was a charter member of the Alumni Association in the Department of Home Economics at Texas A & I University, served as the President of Nueces County Small Schools Association, and was President of the Senior Citizens Council. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer for many years. Shortly after Bobby's death, she established two scholarship funds in the school of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Texas A & M University, Kingsville. Because of her generous support, Agua Dulce was able to complete a community park and it is named in her honor. Opal moved in 2003 to the PineCrest Retirement Community in Lufkin, where she lived the remainder of her life. The family appreciates the care given to Opal by the staff in Assisted Living and Health Care at PineCrest and is most appreciative of the loving care by Belinda Crabb. Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Louis Owen and Robert Owen; and sister-in-law, Virginia Owen. She is survived by brother and sister-in-law Thomas B. and Dorothy Owen; sister-in-law Ethel Owen; nephews, Robert Owen, Larry Owen, Rick Owen, Mark Owen, Michael Owen, Mathew Owen, Thomas A. Owen, and John Owen; and nieces Melissa Thomas and Jean East.
