Dr. Arlene R. Laubach
Dr. Arlene R. Laubach, 90, formerly of Catasauqua, died Friday, October 26, 2012 at her residence in the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. Born in Catasauqua, she was a daughter of the late B. William and Helen (Snyder) Laubach. Arlene was a 1940 graduate of Catasauqua High School. She received her bachelors degree from Hood College in 1944 and her masters from Drexel University in 1951. In 1972, Arlene earned her PhD. from Penn State University. Arlene worked as a teacher in the Catasauqua Area School District for 43 years before retiring in 1987. While at Catasauqua she was the head of the Home Economics Department and an advisor to the school newspaper Brown & White which received many awards, especially from Columbia University. In 1971-72 she was chosen as one of the top ten teachers of the year in PA. Arlene was also a part time faculty member at the Penn State Campus in the Lehigh Valley. An active Childrens Division leader in the former Evangelical & Reformed Church. She was a charter member of the Jessie K. Berlin O.E.S. in Catasauqua and recently a member of the Elizabethtown Chapter, O.E.S. #407. Arlene was a member of Pi Lambda Theta sorority; the Lehigh Chapter of the Pennsylvania Assoc. of School Retirees; the Penn State Grey Lions at Masonic Village, Nittany Lion Club and a former member of the American Assoc. of University Women. Survivors: Arlene is survived by her sister Grace of Elizabethtown and cousins. Services: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2012 at Christ U.C.C., 5050 Airport Road, Allentown, 18109. Her viewings will be 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, November 1st at the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc., 234 Walnut St. Catasauqua, 18032 and 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church or to Masonic Village - Development Dept. 1 Masonic Dr., Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
