Barry Roger Thierer, 71, of De Soto, KS, passed away May 20, 2013 at Hillside Nursing Home in De Soto, following a stroke. Barry was born March 1, 1942 in Junction City, KS to Frank Albert Paul and Ilena Frances Billie (Shipers) Thierer. He graduated from Junction City High School and was proud to have attended K-State University. Barry married Sandra Lee Sechler on February 7, 1970 in Allentown, PA. They have lived in De Soto for 40 years. Barry worked as a records manager for several government agencies, including the Marine Corps and the Environmental Protection Agency, from which he retired in 2005 after 40+ years of government service. He also enjoyed raising horses and cattle for many years, and was actively involved in the Shawnee County Mounted Sheriffs patrol for many years. They performed precision drills on horseback. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of De Soto and served on the De Soto Park Board.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Frank Daryl Thierer. Survivors: Barry is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Jennifer of Shawnee and Frank, also of De Soto; nieces, Sara Davenport and Emily Thierer of Colorado; and other family members and friends. The family wishes to thank Grace Hospice and Hillside Village. Services: Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Overland Park Lutheran Church, 7810 W 79th St., OP, KS 66204. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. before the service at the church. Arrangements: Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS 913-856-7111.
