Bertye Cassin Levy
Bertye Cassin Levy passed away in caring hands, October 22, 2013 at Phoebe Home, Allentown where she resided for the past 6 1/2 years. She was a Breast Cancer Survivor from 1975. Bertye Cassin Levy, born December 31, 1913 in Allentown had retired in Hollybrook, Pembroke Pines, FL in 1975. She was the daughter of Hinda (Buslaf) and Abraham Cassin and the youngest of eight children. Bertye was lovingly married to Sid Levy for 58 years. Life enthusiast, caring family woman, avid athlete, dear friend of many and energetic worker and volunteer, Bertye had a fervent passion for life through all of her wonderful years with us. She was a Central Junior High cheerleader, Allentown High School graduate and 1930 Womans Basketball player for the Jewish Community Center. Bertye danced up a storm at every chance and taught high school students the Charleston. She worked for A S Beck Shoe Company and after marrying Sid, she was associated with Young Folks Bazaar on Main St. in Bethlehem, which was owned by Sid for 45 years. She became a life master in Bridge. Bertye loved golf and was a Womans Golf Champion at Locust Valley Country Club during the 1950s, 60s and 70s and had two holes in one. She loved traveling with Sid; they had taken many cruises, gone dancing, played casinos and celebrated with Gin and Tonic. While living at Phoebe, Bertye taught exercise class for the Residents until she was 97. She read two books every week, loved watching baseball and golf and playing bingo. Bertye lived for sharing time with her family. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Sid, her two brothers, Morris Cassin and Lou Cassin and five sisters, Estelle Luftig, Molly Walters, Faye Platzker, Rose Hilbronner and Sonny Sofranscy. Survivors: She is survived by her sons, Len and wife Janice Levy, Herb and wife Linda Levy all in Allentown; grandchildren, Erin and Scott Schaal of Syracuse, Tom and Debbi Levy of Bethlehem, Lizabeth and John Choi of Bethlehem, Jessica and Jason Goebel of Cotati, CA and Rebecca and Brandon Stahl of Wilmington, DE; also, she is survived by great-grandchildren, Rachel, Sydney, Liza, Jackson, Emmit, Bodhi and Jaiah. Services: A Celebration of Life will be held at Phoebe Home, Moyer Hall on Saturday December 28, 4 to 6 p.m. www.stephensfuneral.com.
